Evaluation of novel bioactive antioxidant molecules from the insect Hermetia illucens
Scientific research has shown that the insect Hermetia illucens (BSF) represents a valid alternative and sustainable source of new bioactive molecules. The in vitro study was conducted to evaluate the antioxidant effect of hydrolysates from BSF larvae. The results demonstrated that Hermetia illucens larvae exhibit a potent antioxidant effect, significantly reducing free radical levels and increasing the activity of antioxidant enzymes. These findings suggest that Hermetia illucens larvae could be a promising source of natural antioxidants with potential health benefits for humans. Further studies are needed to understand the mechanisms involved and assess the applicability of these antioxidants in clinical contexts.
